Recycling Guide

 

Materials that are currently recycled by Missouri S&T's Custodial & Landscape Services Department include:

PAPER
  • Mixed paper is recycled from all Missouri S&T offices and picked up daily by Missouri S&T's Custodial Services Department.

Mixed paper can include:

  • Office Paper, of all colors(shredded paper is acceptable, staples are acceptable, remove paper clips and carbon paper)
  • Junk Mail (including windowed-envelopes)
  • Newspaper (inserts are acceptable, remove plastic bags)
  • Magazines and Catalogs
  • Paperboard cartons (remove any plastic or Styrofoam and flatten cartons to save space)
  • Paper containers (paper food containers that have come into contact with food, cannot be recycled)
  • Paper Bags, of all colors

STYROFOAM

Missouri S&T is collecting Styrofoam peanuts for reuse by local businesses as shipping material

 

LAWN WASTE

95% of all lawn waste is composted by Missouri S&T's Landscape Services Department and re-applied to campus grounds

ALUMINUM

Aluminum cans placed in a labeled box or a blue recylce container will be picked up by Missouri S&T's Custodial Services Department and properly recycled.

Tips for recycling aluminum cans:
Aluminum Cans (cans should be free of any liquid or foreign debris and can be flattened to save space)

CARDBOARD

Corrugated cardboard is recycled daily on our campus. You may recycle cardboard by placing empty boxes in the hallways for daily pick up by Missouri S&T's Custodial Services Department.

Tips for recycling cardboard:
Cardboard (boxes must be empty and free of packing materials such as Styrofoam, paper, and plastic wrapping)

TONER CARTRIDGE COLLECTION

Missouri S&T will be implementing a Toner Cartridge Recycling Program by the end of 2005. There will 4 different locations (Missouri S&T Bookstore, Curtis Laws Wilson Library, Computer Science and Missouri S&T Mail Services located on the ground floor of the Campus Support Facility building) across campus to deposit used cartridges. There will be flyers distributed across campus providing more information about this program.

Missouri S&T's
Environmental Health & Safety Department
handles the recycling of materials such as:

  • Fluorescent Bulbs
  • Batteries
  • Used Oil
  • Mercury

For questions regarding the recycling of these materials, please contact the Environmental Health & Safety Department at 341-4305.

Additionally, the Missouri S&T residence halls are collecting and recycling:

  • Glass Bottles
  • Newspaper
  • Plastic Bottles
  • Aluminum Cans

Missouri S&T currently does not have the capability to recycle materials such as:

  • Tin/Steel Cans
  • Glass Containers (including Pyrex and laboratory glassware)
  • Plastic (including plastic soda containers and plastic grocery sacks)
  • Styrofoam

However, these materials may be properly recycled at the City of Rolla Recycling Facility. For more information on how to properly recycle these items within the Rolla Community, please contact the City of Rolla Recycling Center at 364-6693.
